Heston Hyde Hotel, a contemporary, four-star lifestyle hotel in Hounslow near Heathrow Airport. The hotel is surrounded by 18 acres of woodlands and landscaped gardens which is a beautiful, tranquil retreat from the urban bustle. We normally stay in branded hotels such as Novotel, Hilton and Intercontinental but decided to stay in an independent hotel as we are yet to review one.

The Hotel

The hotel is located on beautiful grounds and there is plenty of free parking which was super helpful, as we find most London hotels have no parking or you have to pay a ridiculous price. The hotel has a spa area with a swimming pool and sauna we didn’t use the facilities but they did look nice.

Check-In

As you enter Heston Hyde the reception is bright with modern decor and very high ceilings, there is a large seating area and the bar is located within the seating area. Check in was very easy, however, we did have to pay a £50 deposit which I thought was a little bit ridiculous, we were also offered breakfast at £10pp which we decided to purchase. The reception staff were not friendly or welcoming at all, they simply offered us breakfast, took our deposit and sent us on our way without any conversation.

The Room

The room was pretty basic but it had all you require for a short stay, it was clean and tidy with a small TV on the wall. There were tea and coffee facilities, but apparently when we asked for some water the receptionist said ‘they don’t give out complimentary water’ which meant we had to purchase a £4 bottle from the bar! Very poor service. The bed was a double bed, but had two single mattresses pushed together which was disappointing, it seems they try to cut a lot of corners to keep costs down, nonetheless the bed was actually very comfortable.

The bathroom was average size with some complimentary shower gels, etc. but there never seemed to be any hot water? There was none in the evening and the water was even colder when we woke up in the morning! How can a hotel operate with no hot water!

Restaurant

We decided to have breakfast as we love breakfast at hotels, pancakes, bacon, eggs, toast YUM! However, our breakfast dreams soon came to an end when we saw the breakfast at Heston Hyde. Burnt hash browns, fatty bacon, runny scrambled eggs! Breakfast disaster. We decided to just go for toast and jam with a coffee, but when I saw the coffee table I just couldn’t bring myself to even touch a thing! (See picture). We did wonder why breakfast was so cheap at £10pp but we were not expecting this! We decided to ask for a refund and the attitude we received from reception staff was disgusting, offering us a sandwich as they cant do refunds. After standing our ground we got our refund with no apology.

Overall

Heston Hyde has the potential to be an amazing hotel, the modern style of the hotel is beautiful. The hotel is not cheap, it averages at £100 a night for a double room, which is expensive for what you get at this hotel! Luckily we had a discount code to use on hotels.com which made it a lot cheaper. Unfortunately, after our experience here we would not be returning, the service for us was too poor and there’s plenty other hotels at a similar price with excellent service. It’s easy to see that the hotel cut costs by avoiding small things that add to the customer experience which is a shame. Hopefully, Heston Hyde will work on these issues to make the hotel better in the near future!
